Wilmington, NC – Southeastern North Carolina faces a soggy Sunday with multiple rounds of showers, isolated thunderstorms and another 1 to 2 inches of rain possible through Sunday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, ongoing morning showers will ease before another round develops around midday and continues into late afternoon. Isolated thunderstorms will also be possible, particularly near the coast.
Unlike areas farther north entering their first frost season, southeastern North Carolina remains much too warm for frost. Sunday highs are forecast to reach 75 to 80 degrees, with overnight lows only falling to 64 to 67.
Rain will instead be the main weather concern.
The NWS expects scattered to widespread showers during the day. After the midday and afternoon round, another batch of showers is expected Sunday night ahead of an approaching cold front.
An additional 1 to 2 inches of rainfall could fall across portions of the region through Sunday night. The forecast graphic does not indicate that every location will receive those amounts, and thunderstorm coverage is expected to remain isolated.
Clouds will hold temperatures down despite the relatively mild air, with highs generally remaining in the upper 70s.
The approaching cold front should mark the next transition in the region's weather after Sunday's repeated rounds of rain. Residents should expect wet conditions to continue into Sunday night and monitor updated National Weather Service forecasts as the front approaches.
