WILMINGTON, NC – Drivers across southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina could encounter hazardous visibility Thursday morning, November 5, as patchy dense fog develops across portions of the region ahead of another unusually warm afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, patchy dense fog is possible Thursday morning, creating potentially difficult driving conditions for commuters traveling through coastal communities and inland areas.
Morning Fog Could Affect Drivers Across the Carolinas The fog threat extends across portions of southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina, including communities in the greater Wilmington area and surrounding counties.
Motorists traveling along Interstate 95, Interstate 40 and other major highways should remain alert for sudden reductions in visibility, particularly in rural and low lying areas.
Dense fog can make it difficult to see approaching vehicles, intersections and changing road conditions.
Drivers encountering reduced visibility should slow down, use low beam headlights and allow additional distance between vehicles.
Rain Chances Remain Near and West of I 95 While fog presents the primary morning concern, forecasters are also monitoring a stalled frontal boundary positioned west of the region.
The National Weather Service indicates isolated rain showers could develop near and west of Interstate 95 Thursday as the front remains nearly stationary.
Most coastal communities are expected to experience limited rainfall chances, with the better opportunities for showers remaining farther inland.
Temperatures Climb Into the 80s Despite the morning fog, Thursday will remain warm across the region.
Afternoon temperatures are expected to reach the lower to middle 80s, while overnight lows remain in the middle 60s.
Residents planning outdoor activities should prepare for warm afternoon conditions following the morning visibility concerns.
The National Weather Service encourages residents to monitor updated forecasts as fog coverage and visibility can vary considerably between communities.
