Atlantic Coast — The Farmers’ Almanac favors cool, mostly fair Thanksgiving weather in the Northeast and milder conditions farther south, with possible flurries in northern and higher elevation parts of its Northeast forecast region.
The publication’s Oct. 19 update covers Monday, Nov. 23, through Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 26, 2026.
The flurry language does not establish snowfall for Boston, New York City or other coastal communities. The Almanac provides no city specific accumulations or timing and describes the broader Northeast pattern as favorable for holiday travel.
Farther south, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida fall within its Southeast zone. The publication projects generally mild, pleasant conditions with sunshine and a good chance of dry weather.
Snow remains part of late autumn climate at the northern end of the coast. Boston averages 0.7 inches during November , according to National Weather Service normals for 1991–2020. The city also averages about seven November days with lows at or below 32 degrees . Those are historical monthly averages, not predictions for this Thanksgiving.
El Niño helps shape the larger weather pattern, but it does not determine conditions for each holiday travel day. NOAA’s November outlook favors above normal temperatures along the coasts and above normal precipitation along much of the East Coast, with greater uncertainty over New England.
A wetter than average month can still include several fair days around Thanksgiving. A warmer monthly average also leaves room for cold spells; neither probability establishes where snow will fall Nov. 23–26.
For winter 2026 27, NOAA favors wetter conditions along the East Coast and warmer conditions across much of the East. Those December through February probabilities do not eliminate individual winter storms or provide a Thanksgiving snow forecast.
Travelers should check National Weather Service forecasts closer to departure, especially when moving between coastal cities and colder inland or mountain destinations. NOAA says snowfall generally cannot be predicted reliably more than a week ahead.
