New Bern, NC – As November 2026 approaches, weather records from last year reveal an unusually dry month in coastal North Carolina. New Bern experienced its 13th driest November in 89 years, while a late month cold snap broke a daily temperature record.
According to National Weather Service climate data, New Bern recorded just 1.11 inches of precipitation during November 2025, compared with the historical monthly normal of 3.33 inches.
That represents a rainfall deficit of 2.22 inches, approximately 67% below normal.
November Ranked Among the Driest in Decades The November 2025 precipitation total ranked 13th lowest in New Bern's 89 year record.
Measurable precipitation occurred on only 10 days, with the wettest day producing 0.53 inches on Nov. 22.
A particularly notable dry stretch lasted 10 consecutive days, from Nov. 11 through Nov. 20, without measurable precipitation.
The unusually low rainfall total highlights how significantly precipitation can vary from one November to another across New Bern, Craven County and the surrounding coastal region.
Record Cold Arrived Late in November Despite the dry conditions, temperatures also produced a noteworthy historical record.
On Nov. 11, New Bern recorded a low temperature of 47 degrees, breaking the previous daily record low maximum temperature of 48 degrees set in 1987.
A low maximum temperature record means the day's highest temperature was unusually cold.
Later in the month, temperatures dropped to 26 degrees, the lowest reading recorded during November 2025.
The city experienced four days with temperatures at or below freezing.
What November 2025 Could Mean for 2026 New Bern's average November temperature was 54.6 degrees, approximately 0.4 degrees above normal.
The combination of slightly warmer average conditions, limited rainfall and a record cold daytime high demonstrates how variable November weather can be.
For residents across New Bern, Craven County and the greater Eastern North Carolina region, last year's data provides a useful historical comparison as November 2026 approaches.
However, November 2025's unusually dry conditions do not establish what precipitation or temperatures will occur in November 2026.
Will the region return to more typical November rainfall, or could another unusually dry month develop?
