Monroe, NC – Union County Sheriff ’s Office deputies arrested a Mecklenburg County man on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, following a high speed vehicle pursuit. Timothy Lewis was taken into custody after an incident that spanned multiple locations and required the assistance of K9 units.
The incident began during evening patrols when deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle displaying a forged tag. Lewis, the driver, refused to stop, leading law enforcement on a pursuit. Deputies successfully deployed stop sticks, which deflated the vehicle's tires; however, Lewis continued to flee before eventually pulling into a business parking lot.
After abandoning the vehicle, Lewis fled on foot and attempted to evade capture by jumping a fence. The Stallings Police Department provided assistance by deploying a K9 unit, which ultimately located Lewis hiding underneath a porch on Aurora Boulevard. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Lewis faces a variety of charges, including speeding to elude arrest, assault on a government employee, operating a vehicle with altered plates, and several drug related offenses. He has been issued a $10,000 secured bond and remains in the Union County Jail.
Chief Tony Underwood addressed the incident, warning those who might attempt to flee from Union County deputies. "If you come to Union County thinking you can run from our deputies, you better think again," Underwood said. "Our deputies are well trained and work together to make sure fleeing suspects are held accountable. We will pursue you; we will find you, and we will arrest you."
