Lexington, NC – A local woman was arrested on September 2, 2026, after law enforcement officials discovered a five year old child left unattended in a parked vehicle for nearly 40 minutes. The incident occurred in the parking lot of a local Food Lion located at 6455 Old US Hwy 52.
According to the Davidson County Sheriff 's Office, deputies responded to the scene following a report of a child left alone in a car. Upon arrival, officers located the juvenile inside a non running vehicle with the windows only slightly cracked.
Records indicate that the outdoor temperature reached approximately 95 degrees at the time of the incident. Medical personnel were dispatched to the scene to assess the child’s condition; the child was subsequently released to the custody of a grandmother who responded to the location.
Deputies identified the child's mother as Lauren Ashley Seamon of Lexington. Authorities allege that Seamon had been inside the grocery store while the child remained in the vehicle.
Law enforcement officials determined that the juvenile had been left in the car for approximately 38 minutes. Seamon was placed under arrest without incident and faces a charge of misdemeanor child abuse.
She was booked into the Davidson County Jail, where she is being held on a $2,000.00 secured bond. The Davidson County Sheriff 's Office noted that, pursuant to North Carolina General Statute 15A 532, conditions of release and bond amounts for criminal proceedings are determined by judicial officials rather than law enforcement.
Seamon is expected to appear in court in Lexington later this month. As with all criminal cases, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The Davidson County Sheriff's Office continues to manage operations from their headquarters at 2511 E US Hwy 64 in Lexington.
