Lexington, NC – Two Winston Salem residents are facing charges after a traffic stop in Davidson County led investigators to approximately 133 pounds of copper and drug paraphernalia, according to authorities. Both suspects were already on pretrial release for unrelated charges when the arrests occurred.
According to the Davidson County Sheriff 's Office, detectives assigned to the Traffic & Criminal Enforcement T.R.A.C.E. Team conducted the traffic stop Friday, Oct. 30, 2026, along Ralph Miller Road near Griggs Farm Lane in Lexington.
Investigators stopped a Jeep Grand Cherokee for an alleged traffic violation. During the encounter, deputies discovered and seized approximately 133 pounds of copper along with drug paraphernalia.
Authorities identified the driver as Chyenne Grace Hamman, 36, of Winston Salem .
Hamman was arrested and charged with transportation and possession of copper weighing more than 25 pounds, driving while license revoked, driving an unregistered motor vehicle and displaying a fictitious registration plate.
The passenger, identified as Drew Jordan Long, 30, also of Winston Salem , was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
The sheriff's office did not specify where the copper originated or whether investigators believe it was stolen. No copper theft charge was listed in the department's announcement.
Both Suspects Held Without Bond
Authorities said neither Hamman nor Long was issued bond because both were already on pretrial release in connection with unrelated charges.
The sheriff's office noted that under North Carolina General Statute 15A 532, conditions of release in criminal proceedings are determined by judicial officials rather than law enforcement officers.
Both individuals were scheduled to appear in Davidson County court during November 2026.
The arrests highlight an enforcement effort by the sheriff's T.R.A.C.E. Team, which investigates traffic violations and criminal activity throughout Davidson County.
Additional details about the copper's ownership and the unrelated pending cases were not disclosed.
Both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
