Indian Trail, NC – Narcotics detectives from the Union County Sheriff 's Office conducted a traffic stop that resulted in the arrest of Madeline Laney and Timothy Helms on drug related charges. Both individuals were subsequently transported to the Union County Detention Center for processing.
According to the sheriff's office , during the intake process at the detention facility, staff determined that Laney attempted to conceal illegal narcotics inside a body cavity. Approximately 7 grams of fentanyl and 1 gram of methamphetamine were recovered and turned over to authorities.
Laney faces charges including two counts of trafficking in opium or heroin, as well as counts for altering, destroying, or stealing evidence of criminal conduct, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance inside the jail, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Helms was charged with two counts of trafficking in opium or heroin, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, felony maintaining a dwelling for the use, storage, or sale of a controlled substance, and a parole violation. Both individuals currently remain in custody at the Union County Detention Center.
