Greensboro, NC – A Greensboro cemetery is now the subject of a criminal investigation, prompting authorities to seek information from families who purchased burial plots or arranged funeral services there dating back to January 2019.
According to the Guilford County Sheriff 's Office, Sheriff Danny H. Rogers announced that investigators have opened a criminal investigation into Piedmont Memorial Park Cemetery on McConnell Road at the request of the Guilford County District Attorney's Office.
The investigation involves cooperation with the North Carolina Cemetery Commission and the Greensboro City Attorney's Office, with authorities examining public concerns surrounding the cemetery's licensing and operations.
Officials confirmed that Piedmont Memorial Park Cemetery is currently not in compliance with the North Carolina Cemetery Act, which governs cemetery operations under state law.
Families planning funerals or burials at the location are being urged to contact the North Carolina Cemetery Commission before proceeding to ensure all legal requirements are satisfied.
Despite the ongoing investigation, individuals with loved ones buried at the cemetery may continue visiting gravesites and paying their respects.
However, authorities warned that temporary closures could become necessary if investigators require additional examination of the property. Any restricted areas would be marked with yellow tape.
Investigators are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who conducted business involving the cemetery since January 2019.
This includes people who purchased burial plots, arranged burials or worked with the cemetery's owners, National Vault Services Inc., funeral homes or associated third parties.
Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact Detective J. Lolar at 336 641 2683 or Greensboro/Guilford Crime Stoppers at 336 373 1000 .
Authorities have not announced arrests or criminal charges in connection with the investigation.
The sheriff's office emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing and acknowledged the sensitive nature of the situation for affected families.
