Charlotte, NC – Thanksgiving travelers across North Carolina may have favorable weather for holiday road trips as a new long range outlook points toward mild conditions and possible sunshine. Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro and Wilmington are among the communities watching the forecast ahead of Thanksgiving on Thursday, Nov. 26.
According to the Farmers' Almanac's Oct. 19 update, its Southeast forecast region favors generally mild, pleasant weather from Monday, Nov. 23, through Thanksgiving Day, with sunshine and a good chance of dry conditions.
North Carolina is explicitly included in the publication's Southeast region, which is not identified as a primary area for Thanksgiving snowfall.
The outlook does not provide specific temperatures, daily rain chances or snowfall predictions for Charlotte, Raleigh, Asheville or other North Carolina communities.
Geography remains important across the state.
Charlotte and the Piedmont typically experience different late autumn conditions than Asheville and higher elevations in the Blue Ridge Mountains, where colder temperatures can support early season snow.
Farther east, Wilmington and coastal communities often benefit from the moderating influence of the Atlantic Ocean.
However, the Almanac's regional projection does not establish a Thanksgiving snow threat for North Carolina's mountains or lower elevations.
NOAA's November outlook favors above normal precipitation in portions of the Southeast, with probabilities reaching 60% to 70% in some areas.
Those percentages describe the likelihood of a wetter than normal month, not the probability of rain in Charlotte or Raleigh on Thanksgiving Day.
Looking ahead, NOAA's winter 2026 27 outlook favors wetter conditions across the South from December through February.
That seasonal pattern could provide opportunities for winter precipitation when sufficiently cold air arrives, but it does not establish whether, when or where snow will fall in North Carolina.
For holiday travelers, I 40 between Asheville, Greensboro and Raleigh, I 85 through Charlotte and the Piedmont, and I 95 through eastern North Carolina are major corridors to monitor.
Could North Carolina see snow before Thanksgiving 2026? Snow is historically possible, particularly in the mountains, but the supplied Farmers' Almanac outlook currently favors mild, generally favorable holiday conditions.
Travelers should consult updated National Weather Service forecasts closer to departure for reliable temperatures, precipitation timing and road conditions.
