Charlotte, NC — A dramatic shift toward autumn weather will arrive in Charlotte this weekend, with afternoon temperatures plunging more than 20 degrees between Friday and Saturday before gradually recovering early next week.
According to the National Weather Service Greenville Spartanburg office, Charlotte is expected to reach 85 degrees Friday before temperatures drop to just 63 degrees Saturday. The 22 degree decline will bring a noticeable change following several days of unusually warm October weather.
Despite the sharp cooldown, sunshine will dominate the weekend, with no precipitation indicated in the city's forecast through Tuesday.
Temperatures Drop Sharply Saturday The transition begins Friday as west southwest winds increase to 7 to 13 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 23 mph.
Friday night will bring partly cloudy skies and temperatures falling to around 50 degrees, setting the stage for a much cooler Saturday.
Afternoon highs Saturday are expected to reach only 63 degrees, a significant departure from the mid 80s experienced the previous day.
The coldest conditions will arrive Saturday night, when clear skies accompany temperatures falling to approximately 42 degrees.
Sunday will remain cool, with sunshine and a high near 63 degrees. Overnight temperatures are expected to settle around 43 degrees.
The cooler weekend follows a broader weather pattern highlighted by NOAA, which expects strong high pressure descending from Canada to bring substantially cooler conditions across much of the central United States.
While the national outlook identifies potential freezing temperatures in portions of the central U.S., the supplied Charlotte forecast keeps overnight readings above freezing.
Gradual Warmup Begins Monday The colder conditions will begin easing Monday as temperatures climb toward 68 degrees under sunny skies.
Monday night will remain relatively cool, with partly cloudy conditions and a low near 50 degrees.
By Tuesday, Charlotte could reach 72 degrees under mostly sunny skies, bringing milder afternoon conditions back to the area.
For residents planning outdoor activities, the weekend will offer a stretch of sunny weather, although temperatures will feel considerably cooler than those experienced earlier in the week.
The National Weather Service forecast indicates dry conditions throughout the period, with the most significant change coming from the sharp temperature drop rather than precipitation.
