Milwaukee, WI – Strong storms, dangerous rip currents, and possible flash flooding will impact southeast Wisconsin through Wednesday, with Milwaukee and Racine in the crosshairs.

According to the National Weather Service in Sullivan, scattered thunderstorms will intensify late Tuesday into Wednesday. Heavy downpours could lead to urban and small stream flooding, especially overnight and into the Wednesday morning commute. Winds may gust up to 35 mph, and some areas could see rainfall totals exceeding half an inch.

Travelers on I-794 and along the Lake Michigan shoreline should prepare for delays and poor visibility during heavy rainfall. A High Swim Risk remains in effect for Milwaukee and Racine beaches due to waves reaching 3 to 5 feet, onshore winds, and dangerous currents. Residents should stay out of the water and avoid piers and breakwalls until conditions improve by late Wednesday.

Thunderstorms may taper off by Wednesday evening, but slick roads and isolated power outages remain possible. Spotters may be activated to monitor storm development Tuesday night and Wednesday.
