Winnipeg, MB – A man in his 20s was hospitalized after a violent and seemingly random assault inside a downtown Winnipeg hotel bar earlier this week, leading to the arrest of two suspects, according to police.
According to the Winnipeg Police Service, the attack occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 26, inside a hotel bar in the 300 block of Kennedy Street. Investigators say the victim was inside the bar when he was confronted by three unknown individuals who allegedly began punching, kicking, and choking him without provocation.
Staff at the hotel intervened and warned the attackers that police had been called, prompting the suspects to flee the scene, police said. The victim was transported to hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.
On Saturday, December 28, officers from the Central District located two of the suspects and took them into custody.
Police say Lorraine Margaret Muswagon, 36, was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a scheduled substance (cocaine), and three counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
A second suspect, Keenan Charles Moar, 27, was allegedly found in possession of crack cocaine, drug packaging materials with an estimated street value of $800, and $143 in cash. He was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine), possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and failing to comply with a release order, according to police.
Both suspects were detained in custody. Police say the investigation remains ongoing, and a third suspect has not yet been located.
