Winnipeg, MB – A convenience store clerk in Winnipeg’s East District was injured Tuesday evening after allegedly being assaulted with a weapon, leading to the arrest of two suspects, according to Winnipeg Police Service.

According to police, the incident happened around 7:12 p.m. Tuesday, January 3, in the 400 block of Talbot Avenue. Investigators say a dispute broke out between a store clerk and a man and woman inside the convenience store. During the confrontation, the clerk was allegedly assaulted with various items taken from within the store.

Police said the clerk suffered minor injuries and did not require medical attention. A bystander entered the store during the incident, prompting the suspects to leave before officers arrived.

East District General Patrol officers responded to the call and began reviewing security footage with the store clerk. While officers were still on scene, police say the same suspects returned to the store and allegedly attempted to falsely claim that they had been assaulted by the employee.

Officers arrested both individuals without further incident.

Police identified the male suspect as Nico Randy Sylvestre, 37, who has been charged with Assault with a Weapon. He was detained in custody.

A 40-year-old woman is also facing a charge of Assault with a Weapon. Police say she was released on an undertaking, which typically includes conditions she must follow while awaiting court proceedings.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information related to the incident is encouraged to contact Winnipeg Police or Crime Stoppers.
