Mokena, IL – A large police presence surrounded a Mokena neighborhood early Wednesday morning after an armed barricade situation developed following a domestic violence call, according to the Will County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to the 18700 block of Marjorie Parkway for a report of a domestic incident involving an armed individual who had allegedly made violent threats. Upon arrival, officers learned that the victim and three children had safely escaped the home before authorities arrived.

The Sheriff’s Office said the suspect then barricaded themselves inside the residence, leading to the activation of SWAT personnel and crisis negotiators. Out of an abundance of caution, deputies established a perimeter and issued a reverse 911 shelter-in-place order for nearby homes within a two-block radius.

Officials advised residents in the area to remain indoors and avoid the scene while negotiations continued. As of the latest update, law enforcement reported no further danger to the public, but the situation remained active as officers worked toward a safe resolution.

It remains unclear whether weapons were discharged or if any injuries have occurred. Authorities have not yet released information on the suspect’s identity or motive.
