Wichita, KS – Mild and partly cloudy weather is expected across central, south-central, and southeast Kansas on Wednesday, with highs reaching the mid- to upper 50s before a strong push of northerly winds arrives Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service Wichita, Wednesday will feature comfortable conditions for mid-December. High temperatures will reach 55–59°, while overnight lows fall sharply into the mid-30s to mid-40s ahead of a cold frontal boundary.

The weather pattern changes quickly early Thursday as the front pushes through the region. Strong northerly winds are forecast to develop behind the system, producing a noticeably cooler and windier day. Highs will reach only 48–56°, and wind gusts may be strong enough to create difficult travel for high-profile vehicles. Skies remain mostly dry, with clouds mixing in throughout the afternoon.

Thursday night brings another temperature drop, with lows dipping into the 24–28° range across much of the area. By Friday, breezy conditions linger, though temperatures moderate slightly with highs climbing into the 51–59° range.

Looking ahead to Saturday, a warming trend begins once again. Sunshine returns, and highs are expected to reach 57–63°, giving central and southern Kansas another stretch of above-normal temperatures before the next system arrives next week.

Residents should prepare for today’s mild weather, followed by colder overnight temperatures and increasing winds Thursday that may impact outdoor plans or travel.
