Pittsburgh, Pa. – Strong thunderstorms could sweep across western Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia through 10 p.m. Monday, prompting a severe thunderstorm watch for 13 counties, including the Pittsburgh metro.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 401 remains active for Allegheny, Westmoreland, Fayette, Greene, and Washington counties, among others, due to the threat of damaging winds and large hail. Cities at risk include Pittsburgh, Greensburg, Uniontown, and Morgantown, West Virginia.

Localized wind gusts could reach up to 60 mph, potentially downing trees and power lines. Residents in Indiana, Clarion, and Jefferson counties should monitor rapidly changing conditions. The storm system may also bring torrential rainfall, leading to ponding on roadways like I-79, I-70, and Route 119.

Emergency officials advise residents to secure outdoor objects, charge mobile devices, and stay indoors during thunderstorm activity. Those driving this evening should avoid flooded roads and be alert for debris.

Storms are expected to taper off late tonight, but additional watches or warnings could be issued if conditions intensify. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts for the latest updates.
