Buffalo, New York – Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms may disrupt the Friday morning commute across western New York, with a second, more widespread round of rain expected to move in after 8 p.m., bringing slick roads and reduced visibility into early Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, a stationary front remains draped across the region today, creating uneven conditions. Areas south of the boundary—including Jamestown, Olean, and Wellsville—could see brief thunderstorms this morning, while locations north of Lake Ontario stay cooler and mostly dry.

High temperatures will vary sharply depending on location. Buffalo and Rochester are expected to stay in the upper 40s to low 50s, while southern tier communities could reach the mid-60s to near 70 degrees. The temperature contrast will help fuel additional shower development later today.

Rain coverage increases significantly after sunset as low pressure tracks along the stalled boundary. Steadier rain is expected along I-90, I-86, and surrounding routes, potentially slowing overnight travel and early Saturday plans. Ponding on roadways and brief visibility drops are possible in heavier showers.

Residents should plan for wet conditions tonight and allow extra travel time. Keep devices charged and monitor alerts, especially if traveling across the Southern Tier. Additional updates are expected by late Friday afternoon as rainfall timing and intensity become clearer.
