Midland, TX – Residents across West Texas and Southeast New Mexico are under multiple weather alerts as the National Weather Service in Midland/Odessa issues a High Wind Warning and maintains a Freeze Watch through Wednesday morning.
The High Wind Warning covers the Guadalupe Mountains region, including Pine Springs, Queen, and Guadalupe Mountains National Park, from 8 a.m. Tuesday to 9 a.m. Wednesday. Forecasters expect northeast winds of 35–45 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph, making travel especially hazardous for high-profile vehicles.
Meanwhile, a Freeze Watch extends across portions of Lea County, NM, and parts of Gaines, Dawson, Marfa Plateau, Chinati Mountains, and Davis Mountains in Texas. Overnight lows near 28°F could kill crops, harm sensitive vegetation, and damage outdoor plumbing.
Officials urge residents to secure loose items, delay travel through Guadalupe Pass, and protect pets and plants before temperatures plummet. Winds may briefly ease Tuesday afternoon before strengthening again overnight.
Both warnings remain active through Wednesday morning, with conditions improving later in the day.
