Cleveland, OH – Residents in northern Ohio should prepare for wet and potentially dangerous conditions throughout the weekend as showers and strong rip currents are expected along the Lake Erie shoreline. The National Weather Service has issued a Beach Hazards Statement, in effect until 8 a.m. Saturday, warning of hazardous swimming conditions and strong rip currents across Lake Erie, including Lorain, Cuyahoga, and Ashtabula counties.

According to the National Weather Service, gusty east winds will contribute to the development of rip currents, which can sweep swimmers away from shore, making the lake particularly dangerous. Officials advise avoiding swimming in affected areas, especially around sandbars and structures extending into the water. Showers will also increase throughout the day on Sunday, with precipitation chances rising to 60% by Sunday afternoon. Residents should also be mindful of minor flooding and prepare for intermittent showers continuing into early next week.

Prepare for high winds, stay clear of the lake, and be ready for changing weather conditions throughout the weekend.
