Waterford Township, MI – A 71-year-old man was rescued Sunday evening after his snowmobile plunged through the ice on Pleasant Lake in Waterford Township, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said the call came in around 5:45 p.m. from the man’s wife, who reported that he had fallen through while riding across the lake. Two nearby neighbors attempted to reach him but were unable to help before rescuers arrived. Both were able to return safely to shore.

Waterford Regional Fire Department personnel located the man and brought him to shore, officials said. He was then transported to St. Joseph Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Authorities are using the incident to remind residents that ice conditions can change rapidly and may be unsafe—even during periods of cold weather. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office advises avoiding frozen lakes and waterways unless the ice has been confirmed safe by officials.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available, the sheriff’s office stated.
