Washington Weather Alert: Fire Danger Rises with 35 MPH Winds and 90s Heat in Wenatchee Until Wednesday Evening

Spokane, Washington – Hot, dry conditions combined with gusty winds up to 35 mph are raising fire weather concerns across central and eastern Washington this afternoon, especially near Wenatchee and Moses Lake.

According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a surge of westerly winds will impact areas from Chelan to Spokane between noon and 8 p.m. Wednesday. Wind gusts will peak between 25 and 35 mph, with Wenatchee seeing the strongest late-day winds. Temperatures remain in the 90s for much of the region, with Moses Lake and Chelan both hitting 93°F.

The elevated fire danger affects key transport corridors including U.S. 2, U.S. 97, and I-90. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged. Residents should secure loose materials, avoid parking in tall grass, and stay alert for any signs of smoke or fire.

Spokane, Lewiston, and Omak will also feel sustained breezes near 20–23 mph into the evening, while cooler air arrives Thursday, bringing temperatures down into the low 80s.

Wind advisories are not yet posted, but fire danger is expected to remain elevated through sunset. Another update is expected by early Thursday morning.
