Blacksburg, VA – Cloudy skies and light rain showers are expected across southwest Virginia today and Tuesday, but forecasters say drier, cooler air is on the way by midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, scattered showers with about a 30% chance of rain will persist through Tuesday evening, with highs ranging from the mid-60s to upper 70s. Overnight lows will dip into the 50s.

By Wednesday, conditions are expected to turn sunnier and more seasonable. Highs will hover near 70 to 76 degrees, with lows dropping into the upper 40s. Thursday continues the dry trend, though slightly cooler, with highs between 60 and 70 degrees.

Looking ahead to Friday, forecasters expect fall-like weather to settle in. Sunshine will dominate skies, but highs will only reach the low 60s to near 70, with nighttime lows falling into the upper 30s and 40s.

The National Weather Service notes this week’s shift could bring the first crisp, fall-feeling mornings to the New River Valley and surrounding areas, following the rain’s departure.

Residents should keep umbrellas handy through Tuesday, but prepare for clearer skies and cooler temperatures later this week.
