Indianapolis, IN – Firefighters quickly contained a fire at an unoccupied Tyson warehouse on South Keystone Avenue Tuesday afternoon. The blaze produced heavy smoke and flames visible on the northwest side of the structure.

According to the Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD), the building was empty except for shelving used to store goods. Squatters seeking shelter may have sparked the fire, though the exact cause remains under investigation. Crews responded at 1:11 p.m. and deployed multiple hose lines and a master stream to extinguish flames running up a wall near the riser room.

Firefighters successfully prevented the fire from spreading into the interior and controlled it within 30 minutes. No injuries were reported.

Residents in the area expressed concern over safety risks posed by abandoned properties. IFD has urged property owners to secure vacant buildings to deter unauthorized access.

As the investigation continues, officials are asking the public to report suspicious activity around vacant structures.
