University Park, IL – A University Park resident was arrested after allegedly threatening Crete-Monee Middle School students with a firearm on Thursday afternoon. The students were walking home from school when the individual on Blackhawk Drive reportedly brandished a weapon and made threats.

Coretta Scott King Magnet School (CSK) administrators learned of the incident and quickly notified the University Park Police Department. Officers responded rapidly, securing the area and taking at least one individual into custody. The incident occurred before CSK’s dismissal and was not witnessed by its students.

School officials assured families that all students were safe and unharmed. They emphasized that student safety remains a top priority and praised law enforcement’s prompt action. Crete-Monee District 201-U also communicated details about the incident through a public notice, reinforcing their commitment to maintaining a secure environment.
