North Carolina, VA – A tornado watch is in effect for parts of North Carolina, eastern South Carolina, and southern Virginia from 8:05 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. today. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued the warning as the tornado threat from Tropical Storm Helene intensifies along the East Coast.

According to the NWS, areas within 110 miles on either side of a line from Florence, SC, to Elizabeth City, NC, should remain vigilant throughout the day. This includes both coastal regions and inland areas. The primary concerns include the possibility of several tornadoes and damaging thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts.

Residents in the affected areas are urged to stay informed of local weather updates and be prepared to seek shelter if conditions worsen. A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes, and people should monitor weather alerts and warnings closely. Additional advisories will be issued as needed.
