Amarillo, TX – The Texas Panhandle faces hazardous travel conditions today as a winter storm moves across the region. Drivers along Highway 60 and Interstate 40 should expect up to 5 inches of snow and gusty winds creating slick, low-visibility roads.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through 6 a.m. Friday, with snowfall intensifying this afternoon. Areas such as Amarillo, Pampa, and Borger are likely to see 2 to 5 inches of accumulation, with peak snow expected between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Bridges and overpasses will likely ice over quickly, causing hazardous conditions during the evening commute. Residents should delay nonessential travel and drive with extreme caution if they must be on the roads. Wind gusts of up to 25 mph may reduce visibility further, creating additional challenges for drivers.

Friday morning will bring clearer skies, but subfreezing temperatures will keep roads icy into the early hours. A gradual warm-up is expected by Saturday, with highs reaching 47 degrees and sunny skies returning.

Looking ahead, the weekend offers relief from winter weather, with Sunday temperatures reaching the low 40s and mostly sunny conditions. However, overnight lows will dip back into the 20s, so residents should monitor icy patches on roads during mornings.
