San Antonio, Texas – A slow-moving storm system is soaking much of south and central Texas on Saturday, with rainfall totals possibly reaching up to 10 inches in some areas and triggering a widespread Flood Watch.
According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio and Fort Worth, the Flood Watch remains in effect until 7 p.m. Saturday for more than 20 counties, including Travis, Bexar, Williamson, Hays, Bell, and Coryell. Rainfall between 2 to 4 inches is expected across the region, but localized downpours could push totals well higher—especially near the Hill Country.
In Austin, San Antonio, and surrounding cities like New Braunfels, Killeen, and San Marcos, street flooding and rapidly rising creeks are possible. Low-water crossings in rural areas and urban underpasses may become impassable. The Texas Department of Transportation advises residents to avoid driving through flooded roads and monitor real-time updates via DriveTexas.org.
This marks one of the heaviest early-July rain events in recent years, fueled by a moist tropical air mass. Emergency officials recommend securing outdoor belongings, charging mobile devices, and staying off the roads if possible.
Warnings may be upgraded through the day. The next advisory is expected by mid-afternoon as storms redevelop.
