MEMPHIS, Tennessee – A calm, golden morning spreads across the Mid-South as mild air drifts over the Mississippi River. The quiet stretch of clear skies and comfortable warmth has given residents a welcome break — but a change is already on the horizon, with showers expected to arrive before the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, temperatures will continue to climb through Thursday, reaching the mid-70s under sunny skies. A light southwest breeze will make for perfect conditions across Shelby County, West Memphis, and northern Mississippi — ideal for outdoor projects, late-fall yard work, or early holiday decorating.

By Friday, however, clouds begin to thicken as a weak cold front approaches from the west. Rain chances rise to about 40 percent during the afternoon and early evening, mainly along and north of the I-40 corridor. While rainfall totals should stay light, brief downpours and gusty winds up to 20 mph may slow travel across the metro, especially near bridges and overpasses where slick pavement develops quickly.

Friday night’s cooler air will usher in a refreshing weekend. Highs fall back into the lower 70s on Saturday and near 60 by Sunday, with bright skies and light winds — perfect for Veterans Day events and late-fall outdoor plans.

Long-range patterns hint at a more significant cool-down next week as Arctic air builds north of the Plains, signaling the start of the Mid-South’s transition toward true late-November weather.
