Nashville, Tenn. – Drivers across Middle Tennessee will face dangerous conditions early Tuesday as dense fog drops visibility to a quarter-mile or less in many areas, making morning travel treacherous.

According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect for all of Middle Tennessee until 8 a.m. CDT Tuesday. The advisory spans from Clarksville to Crossville, including the I-40 and I-65 corridors and metro areas like Nashville, Murfreesboro, and Columbia.

Motorists should expect reduced visibility, particularly in low-lying or rural areas, and are advised to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and increase following distance. Emergency officials recommend delaying non-essential travel until after 8 a.m. if possible.

Cities such as Gallatin, Lebanon, and Cookeville are likely to see thick fog through sunrise. The low visibility could also disrupt school traffic and early freight routes across the Cumberland Plateau and surrounding valleys.

While no major road closures have been reported as of midnight, TDOT crews are monitoring conditions. Drivers should stay updated through local alerts and traffic apps.

More visibility updates are expected by 6 a.m. Tuesday as conditions begin to lift.
