Rutherford County, TN – A semi-truck crash has shut down Interstate 24 toward Nashville near the South Church Street exit in Murfreesboro, leading to major traffic delays Tuesday morning.
According to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred just before the South Church Street exit ramp, and the involved semi-truck is leaking diesel fuel. Emergency responders are on the scene working to contain the spill and clear the wreckage.
Drivers traveling westbound on I-24 are being diverted off the interstate at Joe B. Jackson Parkway onto U.S. Highway 41, officials said. The detour is expected to increase traffic along Manchester Highway and Southeast Broad Street through Murfreesboro.
Authorities are urging motorists to avoid the area and use alternate routes while cleanup crews handle the hazardous material and investigate the crash. Delays are expected to last for several hours.
Residents are asked to remain patient and drive cautiously around detours. Updates will be provided as lanes reopen.
