Nashville, TN – A Nashville man is facing multiple rape charges after allegedly assaulting an unconscious woman outside a church Thursday night, authorities said. The victim later died at a local hospital.
According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD), Mohamed Mohamed, 39, was charged Friday morning with four counts of rape following the incident on the 2600 block of Nolensville Pike. A fire crew en route to an unrelated call reportedly witnessed the assault around 9:30 p.m. and immediately intervened.
Firefighters from Nashville Fire Department’s Engine 21 saw Mohamed allegedly attempting to pull up the woman’s clothing on the sidewalk in front of a church, police said. The crew detained him, contacted MNPD, and rendered aid to the victim, who was later transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She died shortly after arrival. An autopsy is pending.
Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators allegedly shows the woman stumbling toward the church steps before sitting down, appearing disoriented. Mohamed then allegedly approached her, sat beside her, and began making physical contact. Detectives say the woman appeared to drift in and out of consciousness as she tried to push him away before he allegedly assaulted her multiple times.
Mohamed was taken into custody and refused to speak with police. A judicial commissioner set his bond at $300,000. Authorities say the victim carried no identification, and efforts to identify her through fingerprints are ongoing.
The investigation remains open as detectives await the results of the autopsy and toxicology reports from the Medical Examiner’s Office.
