La Crosse, Wis. – Drivers and residents along I-90 in southern Wisconsin and southeastern Minnesota should prepare for heavy rain tonight into Friday morning, with a growing chance for more than an inch of rainfall and localized flooding.
According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, areas south of I-90 have the highest chances of exceeding 1 inch of rain tonight, including La Crosse (64% chance), Prairie du Chien (64%), and Decorah (55%). As the system progresses Thursday into Friday morning, the heaviest rain shifts northward, bringing an 84% chance of significant rainfall to the Twin Cities and 71% to Eau Claire.
Repeated rounds of rain—though not expected to cause widespread flooding—may still lead to ponding on roads and minor urban flooding in low-lying or poorly drained areas. Areas along U.S. Highway 52 and I-94 near Rochester, Winona, and Black River Falls should monitor for changing conditions.
Residents are urged to monitor local forecasts, charge mobile devices, and avoid driving through water-covered roads. Storm drains should be cleared to reduce pooling.
Rain chances persist through Friday morning, with additional showers possible over the weekend. Updated advisories may be issued if rainfall totals exceed expectations.
