Miami, Florida – Torrential downpours could leave parts of Miami and Broward underwater by mid-afternoon as a lingering storm system stalls over South Florida.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a Flood Watch remains in effect through 5 p.m. Wednesday for Miami-Dade and Broward counties, where as much as 4 to 6 inches of rain may fall in concentrated bursts. This raises the risk of flooding on urban roads and poor drainage areas, particularly along major arteries like I-95 and U.S. Route 1.

Localized flooding is already possible in areas like Hialeah, Kendall, Coral Springs, and Hollywood, where previous rains have saturated the ground. Officials urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel and be alert for rapidly changing conditions. Quick rises in water levels could occur if storms repeatedly hit the same areas.

Rain will continue into early Thursday, with brief breaks expected. The environment remains favorable for heavy, slow-moving showers, and the potential for training storms may prolong the threat.
