Columbia, South Carolina – Storms will return to Columbia Monday afternoon, bringing a renewed threat of downpours and lightning just in time for the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms are likely after 3 p.m. Monday, with a 30% chance of precipitation during the day and 50% overnight. Storms could drop between a tenth and quarter inch of rain, with higher amounts possible in localized downpours. Winds will shift from the west to southwest, gusting up to 13 mph.

Drivers on I-26, I-77, and I-20 should prepare for slick conditions and possible ponding during the evening rush. Power outages and brief flooding may occur in heavier cells. Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items and charge mobile devices in case of outages.

On Tuesday, expect similar patterns with a 50% chance of thunderstorms during the day and into the evening. Storms will taper off after sunset but may linger through early Wednesday.

The second half of the week remains unsettled. Showers and storms are possible Thursday (40%) and Friday (60%), with highs consistently near 91°F and lows in the upper 60s. Humidity will remain high, keeping conditions muggy and potentially dangerous for outdoor labor or prolonged exposure.
