Scottsdale, AZ – Drivers on Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) are getting some long-awaited relief this week as a new northbound lane officially opened early Monday morning between Shea Boulevard and Princess Drive.

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), the addition marks a major milestone in the ongoing Loop 101 widening project through Scottsdale. During a weekend closure, crews installed lane striping, removed barricades, and completed other finishing work to prepare for the opening.

There are now four general-purpose lanes and one high-occupancy vehicle lane in operation along this busy stretch of freeway, easing congestion for commuters traveling through north Scottsdale.

ADOT says the $108 million improvement effort also includes several key upgrades: enhanced traffic signals and turn lanes at the Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard interchange, new signs and freeway lighting, and turn-lane additions at Shea Boulevard, Raintree Drive, and Princess Drive/Pima Road.

Next, construction will shift focus to the southbound side of the freeway. The new southbound lane is expected to open following a planned closure between Nov. 7–10 for work between Princess Drive and Shea Boulevard.

A separate short-term project is also scheduled for next spring to improve the pavement surface within the same work zone. The entire Loop 101 improvement project remains on track for completion by early next year.
