Sacramento, Calif. – Showers are moving into Northern California Monday morning, bringing the heaviest rainfall to the northern Sacramento Valley and surrounding mountains. Drivers in Eureka and Redding could see slick roads as totals climb near an inch and a half along the North Coast.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, rain will be unevenly distributed across the region, with many areas south of Chico seeing only a trace to a quarter inch by late Tuesday. San Francisco and Stockton may pick up little more than light drizzle, while Fort Bragg and higher terrain north of Redding could measure more than half an inch.

The second, stronger push of moisture is expected Tuesday night into Wednesday, which could extend showers farther into the central valley and foothills. Officials advise allowing extra travel time on Highways 101 and 299, where heavier rain bands are most likely.

Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor belongings and check windshield wipers before the midweek rain arrives. Rain chances will ease by late Wednesday, but more updates may be issued if the system intensifies.
