Davenport, Iowa – Drivers across the Quad Cities region are facing dangerous travel conditions overnight into Wednesday morning as dense fog continues to expand, sharply reducing visibility and creating a heightened risk for accidents during the early commute.
According to the National Weather Service office serving the Quad Cities, areas of dense fog are expected to persist through late Wednesday morning, with visibility frequently dropping below one mile and, at times, under a quarter mile. The advisory covers much of eastern Iowa and western Illinois, including Davenport, Bettendorf, Moline, Rock Island, and surrounding communities.
Rapid changes in visibility are likely, especially along major routes such as Interstate 80, Interstate 74, and U.S. Highway 61. Temperatures hovering in the upper 20s to low 30s may also lead to isolated slick spots on bridges and untreated roads, further complicating travel.
Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and use low-beam headlights when driving through fog. Officials stress avoiding sudden braking and staying alert to changing conditions, particularly in rural areas and near river valleys where fog can thicken quickly.
The Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect through late Wednesday morning, with conditions expected to gradually improve by midday. Additional updates may be issued if fog persists longer than anticipated.
