Peoria, IL – A 15-year-old has been arrested in connection with a June shooting that left a 12-year-old boy seriously injured in Peoria.

According to the Peoria Police Department, officers responded to the 1800 block of N. Lehman Road around 6:09 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, after receiving a report of a person shot. When officers arrived, they found the 12-year-old suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigations Division, Special Investigations Division, and Crime Scene Unit identified a 15-year-old as a suspect during their investigation.

On Monday, September 8, detectives learned the juvenile was already in custody at the Jacksonville Police Department in Illinois on an unrelated case. Detectives served an arrest warrant, and the suspect was extradited to Peoria. Police said the teen was interviewed, then arrested on allegations of Aggravated Battery, and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.
