Philadelphia, PA – A Code Orange air quality alert remains in effect across the Philadelphia metro today as temperatures climb and ozone levels spike.

According to the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, this alert remains active through Wednesday due to unhealthy pollution levels for sensitive groups, including children, seniors, and those with respiratory conditions. Skies will stay sunny, with highs near 87°F by Thursday—raising added concerns about heat-related illness during outdoor activity.

Drivers in the region, particularly along I-76, are urged to limit midday travel on Thursday, when ozone concentrations may peak. Calm winds and full sun on both Wednesday and Thursday will trap pollutants closer to the ground, worsening breathing conditions. Residents are advised to limit strenuous activity outdoors and run air purifiers indoors if possible.

Thursday night remains warm and partly cloudy with a low of 66°F. Friday brings a 30% chance of afternoon showers, but highs still reach 85°F. Thunderstorms grow more likely by Saturday, especially after 2 p.m., when precipitation chances rise to 80%. Those storms could continue into early Sunday.
