Paducah, Ky. – Cooler-than-normal temperatures will linger across Kentucky through Labor Day, but rain remains scarce, leaving drought conditions to worsen after one of the driest Augusts in recent memory.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, highs will hold mainly in the upper 70s to low 80s most of this week, warming slightly toward the holiday weekend. The only chance for meaningful rain comes Thursday, and even then showers are expected to be light and mostly confined to southeast Missouri.

Communities across western Kentucky, including Paducah, Owensboro, and Murray, will see plenty of sunshine and cool mornings, with lows dipping into the upper 40s and low 50s. Farmers and residents relying on late-summer rainfall may see worsening stress on crops, lawns, and water supplies.

Travelers heading out for the Labor Day holiday can expect mainly dry roads and clear skies, though Thursday’s spotty showers could briefly slow traffic near the Missouri border. Officials encourage residents to conserve water where possible as dry soil conditions intensify.

The stretch of mild, dry weather is expected to hold into early next week, with only a slight warming trend. Additional drought advisories could be issued if rainfall remains limited.
