ORLAND PARK, Ill. – More than 7,000 ComEd customers in Orland Park remained without power following severe storms that swept through the area, prompting an ongoing response from village crews and utility workers.
According to the Village of Orland Park, officials have been in direct contact with ComEd as restoration efforts continue. Public Works crews have been dispatched throughout the community to assess storm damage, clear debris, reopen roads, and unclog storm drains blocked by fallen branches and other storm debris. The village said crews will continue working extended evening hours over the next several days.
Several traffic signals across the village remain inoperable. Officials are reminding drivers to treat any non-functioning traffic signal as a four-way stop, reduce speed, remain alert, and give utility and public works crews plenty of space to work safely.
Brush cleanup is also scheduled to begin Wednesday, July 29, and continue through Wednesday, August 5. Residents are asked to place brush at the curb with cut ends facing the road, keep piles consolidated, and avoid blocking sidewalks, hydrants, storm drains, mailboxes, utility poles, or parked vehicles. Regular yard waste collection through Waste Management will also continue on scheduled pickup days.
Village officials also warned that additional severe weather remains possible later today, which could impact restoration efforts.
Residents without air conditioning, those needing to charge medical equipment or phones, or anyone seeking relief from the heat may use the Orland Park Police Department, 15100 S. Ravinia Ave., as the village’s primary cooling center.
Officials urge residents to stay away from downed power lines, use generators only outdoors, and monitor ComEd’s outage map and the Village’s OPAlert system for updates.
