Pendleton, Oregon – A dangerous stretch of triple-digit temperatures will grip Pendleton starting Sunday morning as a Heat Advisory takes effect at 11 a.m., with highs expected to reach 100°F by Monday and up to 103°F in nearby valleys through Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, the advisory runs from 11 a.m. Sunday to 9 p.m. Tuesday, covering the foothills of the Northern Blue Mountains, including Pendleton, Pilot Rock, and surrounding areas. Health officials warn that the intense heat could lead to heat-related illness, especially for vulnerable populations.
Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activity, and check on neighbors, especially the elderly. Children and pets should never be left in vehicles, even briefly. Those working outdoors should reschedule activities to early morning and take frequent shaded or indoor breaks.
Sunday brings a high of 95°F, rising to 100°F on Monday, with lows only dipping to the mid-60s, offering little overnight relief. Tuesday remains scorching at 96°F, before temperatures ease slightly to 87°F by Wednesday and 79°F Thursday.
Relief arrives by Wednesday night, with a low near 52°F and a return to more typical June weather by Thursday, which brings a high near 79°F and a cool-down into the 40s overnight by Thursday night.
Warnings remain in effect through Tuesday evening, and more alerts could follow if conditions worsen.
