Fall Creek, OR – Two Eugene residents were arrested Saturday after an alleged attempted assault and reckless endangerment incident involving three young children in a popular camping area outside Fall Creek, Oregon.

Deputies with the Lane County Sheriff’s Office responded around 12:30 p.m. to a report of reckless endangerment near milepost 5 on Big Fall Creek Road, a well-traveled spot frequented by campers northeast of Lowell.

According to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, 44-year-old Zachery Ty Bryan and 32-year-old Johnnie Faye Cartwright were driving in a pickup truck together with their three small children when Bryan exited the vehicle and began walking. Cartwright allegedly attempted to run Bryan over with the truck, crashing it into a ditch with the children still inside. Bryan was able to avoid injury, and none of the children were hurt in the crash.

Deputies noted signs of impairment in both adults and later discovered that Bryan was under a court order not to have contact with Cartwright due to a prior case. Witnesses at the scene were also interviewed during the investigation.

Cartwright was arrested on charges including Attempted Assault in the First Degree, three counts of Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and DUII. Bryan was taken into custody for a probation violation related to an earlier charge of Assault in the Fourth Degree.

The three children involved were safely placed with a family member following the arrests, authorities confirmed.

The case remains under investigation.
