Pittsburgh, PA – Strong wind gusts and isolated flash flooding could impact much of western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and northern West Virginia starting late Thursday, as a round of thunderstorms moves through the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Level 1 (Marginal) risk for severe storms is in place for both Thursday and Friday, with the primary hazard being damaging winds. Thursday’s threat targets areas north and west of Morgantown, WV, including Butler, Clarion, and eastern Ohio communities like Zanesville and New Philadelphia. The strongest activity is expected Thursday late afternoon into the evening.
By Friday, the risk zone shifts slightly south and west, affecting regions near Wheeling, Fairmont, and areas southwest of Pittsburgh. Localized flash flooding remains possible, especially if slower-moving storms develop during peak heating.
Residents are urged to monitor alerts and ensure their devices are set to receive emergency warnings. Outdoor plans Thursday and Friday afternoon should include backup shelter options.
Storms are expected to taper by Friday night, but additional advisories may follow if the system intensifies or stalls.
