Shreveport, LA – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Shreveport has issued a freeze warning for Northwest Louisiana, in effect from midnight Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday. Temperatures are forecast to drop as low as 28 degrees, impacting parishes such as Caddo, Bossier, and Webster.
Residents should take precautions to protect tender plants and exposed outdoor plumbing. Sensitive vegetation may be damaged or killed by the sub-freezing temperatures. Wrapping pipes and allowing faucets to drip overnight can help prevent costly freeze-related damage.
This cold snap could also pose a threat to outdoor pets and livestock, which should be provided with adequate shelter and warmth. Vulnerable populations, such as the elderly and young children, should also be safeguarded during the overnight freeze.
The warning coincides with busy travel and shopping plans during the Thanksgiving weekend. Early morning drivers are advised to use caution, as frost could lead to slippery road conditions, especially on bridges and overpasses.
The freeze warning will end by 9 a.m. Saturday, but cold temperatures are expected to persist into the weekend.
