Bemidji, Minnesota – Overnight temperatures across north-central and northwest Minnesota are expected to bottom out near freezing, triggering a frost advisory that could damage sensitive plants before sunrise Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, the advisory runs from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. and covers 15 counties, including Beltrami, Roseau, Clearwater, and Lake of the Woods. Cities like Bemidji, Park Rapids, Thief River Falls, and Baudette are all under the advisory, with lows expected to dip to 33°F.

Residents are urged to cover or bring in sensitive vegetation, particularly in low-lying rural areas where frost is more likely to form. This is the most widespread frost advisory so far this season for northern Minnesota, signaling a cooler shift heading into the weekend.

While no impacts to travel or infrastructure are expected, farmers and home gardeners should act now to prevent overnight crop loss.
