Electra, Texas – Farmers, ranchers, and oil operators near Electra should prepare for potential flooding along Beaver Creek beginning Monday afternoon, with waters possibly reaching 2 feet deep across parts of Wilbarger and Wichita counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, a Flood Watch is in effect from Monday afternoon through early Tuesday afternoon for the area surrounding Beaver Creek. Current river levels were measured at 9.8 feet Sunday morning, but forecasters warn that the flood stage of 24 feet could be reached by early Monday afternoon.

If the creek rises as expected, low-lying farmland and rangeland could flood, and oil and gas infrastructure in the area may be submerged or cut off. Residents and workers in southern Wilbarger County and southwestern Wichita County should avoid low-lying roads and monitor local alerts closely.

This alert comes as scattered storms continue across North Texas, bringing heavy rain to already saturated ground. Officials advise locals to remain on higher ground, charge mobile devices, and prepare to move equipment or livestock if necessary.

The Flood Watch remains in effect through 1 p.m. Tuesday, and additional advisories may follow as river levels rise.
