North Dakota – Residents in North Dakota, particularly around the Grand Forks area, should prepare for a potential winter storm early next week, which could bring a mix of rain, snow, and icy conditions, especially impacting roads like I-29 and I-94. The National Weather Service in Grand Forks is closely monitoring the storm’s track, as even small changes could significantly affect the local impact, especially regarding precipitation type and amounts.

According to the National Weather Service, initial rainfall is expected to begin as early as Monday or Tuesday, with a more intense round of precipitation following on Wednesday and Thursday. Currently, there’s a 50% or greater chance of accumulating a half-inch or more of precipitation across the region, which could come as rain, snow, or a mix, depending on temperatures.

The forecast suggests two possible scenarios: a western and northern track of the storm could bring warmer temperatures, resulting in mostly rain, while a more southern and eastern path may increase the likelihood of snow and colder air, heightening the risk of icy roadways and hazardous travel.

Weekend weather in Grand Forks will remain relatively calm, with highs in the low 50s and lows in the 30s. However, the situation is expected to shift dramatically by early next week as this storm system advances. The National Weather Service advises residents to prepare winter readiness kits and to stay updated on forecast developments, particularly if planning to travel during mid-week.

After a mild weekend, be sure to monitor changing conditions as the region could face winter weather impacts by midweek. Visit weather.gov for the latest forecasts and consider preparing vehicles and homes for possible winter conditions.
