WILMINGTON, NC – While southeastern North Carolina is set for a sunny and mild weekend, weather officials are warning of an increased fire danger on Saturday due to breezy and dry conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, temperatures will rise into the low 70s over the next few days, with clear skies dominating the forecast. However, Saturday’s gusty winds and low humidity levels could create conditions favorable for wildfires, particularly in rural and forested areas. Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning and remain cautious with open flames.

Friday will see a high of 63°F with sunny skies and northwest winds up to 16 mph. Overnight, temperatures will drop to 42°F with calm winds. Saturday will warm up to 71°F, but southwest winds could gust as high as 24 mph, increasing the risk of fire spread.

By Sunday, temperatures will peak near 70°F with continued clear conditions, making for a pleasant spring day. However, Monday brings a 30% chance of afternoon showers, potentially providing some relief from the dry spell. Highs will reach 74°F before cooling to 50°F overnight.

Looking ahead to next week, Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to remain mostly sunny, with highs hovering around 70°F.
